ISO 20000-1:2018 — Quick Summary

ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018 is the international standard for IT Service Management Systems (SMS) — the only certifiable standard within the broader ISO/IEC 20000 family. It specifies requirements for planning, designing, transitioning, delivering, and continually improving IT services, built on ISO's Harmonized Structure for easy integration with ISO 9001 and ISO 27001. London Cert Ltd conducts the audit directly, and your certificate is issued with genuine IAF accreditation through our accredited certification partner.

What Does ISO 20000-1 Actually Require?

ISO 20000-1 requires a structured, auditable approach to running IT services across their full lifecycle: planning and designing new or changed services, managing the transition of services into live operation, delivering services against agreed service levels, and continually improving based on incident data, service reviews, and customer feedback. Core processes include incident management, problem management, change management, configuration management, capacity and availability management, and service level management — with formal SLAs, not informal expectations.

ISO 20000-1 complements, rather than competes with, ITIL: ITIL is a best-practice guidance framework (individuals get ITIL-certified), while ISO 20000-1 is the certifiable requirements standard against which an organisation's actual service management system is independently audited. Many IT organisations implement ITIL-based processes and then certify the resulting system to ISO 20000-1 for external validation.

💡 A 2025 Climate Action amendment has been introduced across ISO management system standards, including guidance relevant to ISO 20000-1, reflecting growing expectations that IT service delivery also considers environmental impact — relevant as data centre energy use draws increasing scrutiny.

ISO 20000-1 and India's Global Capability Centre Boom

India's Global Capability Centre (GCC) sector has moved well beyond traditional back-office outsourcing. By mid-2026, India hosts over 2,100 GCCs employing more than 2.3 million professionals and generating revenues exceeding $70 billion annually — NASSCOM projects this will reach $105 billion and 2.8 million employees by 2030. JPMorgan Chase's December 2025 announcement of Asia's largest GCC in Mumbai's Powai district is emblematic of a broader shift: GCCs are increasingly strategic command centres owning core enterprise functions, not just cost-arbitrage execution hubs.

This shift changes the governance conversation. A GCC that previously just "did tasks" for its parent company can operate informally; a GCC running formal service-level commitments, incident management, and change governance for core enterprise IT functions needs the same kind of structured, auditable service management that any external managed service provider would. ISO 20000-1 gives GCCs — whether third-party managed or fully captive — an internationally recognised way to formalise and prove this maturity, both to their global parent's governance teams and to external stakeholders. As GCCs expand into tier-2 hubs (Coimbatore, Nagpur, Jaipur, GIFT City Ahmedabad) and shift toward AI-driven, product-aligned mandates, this kind of certified service governance becomes a differentiator, not a nice-to-have.

Critical: Only certificates issued by IAF-accredited bodies are genuinely valid for GeM, CPPP, and international procurement. India has thousands of fraudulent ISO bodies selling unaccredited certificates that are regularly rejected by compliance teams. London Cert is IAF-accredited.

Who Needs ISO 20000-1 Certification?

  • Global Capability Centres (GCCs) — both third-party managed and captive — formalising service delivery to their parent enterprise

Managed IT service providers and outsourcing companies

Data centre and cloud infrastructure providers

SaaS and product companies with significant enterprise support/service obligations

Any organisation bidding for IT service contracts where clients require formal SMS certification

⚠️ Only a certificate carrying genuine IAF (International Accreditation Forum) accreditation is internationally recognised. London Cert Ltd conducts your full audit directly — we are not a paperwork-only reseller — and your certificate is issued with IAF accreditation through our accredited certification partner, verifiable at verify.londoncert.co.uk.

Why London Cert

Is London Cert a genuine, accredited ISO 20000-1:2018 Certification body?

India has a serious fake ISO body problem. Here's exactly why London Cert certificates are genuine, accepted globally, and legally valid.

  • IAF-Accredited Certificates via Our Partner BodyIAF (International Accreditation Forum) is the global peak body for certification accreditation. London Cert Ltd conducts your full audit directly, and your certificate is then issued with IAF accreditation through our accredited certification partner — accepted worldwide: GeM, CPPP, US federal procurement, EU suppliers, UAE clients, everywhere.
  • UK-Registered Third-Party Certification companyWe are NOT a consultancy. London Cert Ltd is registered in the United Kingdom as an independent certification company — the only entity legally authorised to issue internationally valid ISO certificates. We conduct the audit AND issue the certificate.
  • Valid for GeM, CPPP & All Government TendersHundreds of our clients have used our ISO 20000-1:2018 Certification certificates for GeM vendor registration, CPPP tenders, and state government portals — with a 100% acceptance rate. Fake certificates from non-IAF bodies are systematically rejected.

Cost & Pricing

ISO 20000-1:2018 Certification certification cost — transparent pricing

Fixed-price, all-inclusive packages. No hidden fees. No surprise invoices. The price you're quoted is the price you pay.

Why we don't publish exact prices: ISO 20000-1:2018 Certification certification cost depends on your specific company size, number of locations, number of employees, industry, and documentation complexity. A fixed published price would either overcharge small businesses or undercharge complex ones. Contact us for a personalised, binding quote within 24 hours — specific to your business.

What affects the cost?

Company Size

More employees = more audit time. Audit duration is directly tied to your employee count and the scope of operations being certified.

Number of Locations

Each additional location may require separate or extended audit time. Multi-site certifications are priced accordingly — contact us to discuss.

Industry Complexity

Simple service businesses have fewer process documents than complex manufacturing operations. Documentation scope directly affects cost.

Existing Documentation

If you already have some quality management processes documented, less preparation work is needed — which can reduce the overall cost.

Remote vs On-Site

Remote audits are available for all businesses and are typically more cost-effective. On-site audits are available for clients who need or prefer physical presence.

Why London Cert is cost-effective

We prepare ALL documents. You just review and approve.

Most certification companies require you to hire a separate consultant to prepare documentation — and then pay the certification company for the audit on top. London Cert does both. This integrated approach saves time and significantly reduces total cost.

FAQ

ISO 20000-1:2018 — every question answered

The 13 most-asked questions about ISO 20000-1:2018 Certification certification — straight, accurate answers.

ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018 is the international standard for IT Service Management Systems (SMS), specifying requirements for planning, designing, transitioning, delivering, and continually improving IT services. It's the only certifiable standard in the ISO/IEC 20000 family. London Cert Ltd conducts the certification audit directly, and delivers your certificate with IAF accreditation through our accredited certification partner.

Official London Cert Policy

Yes, increasingly so. As Indian GCCs evolve from basic execution hubs into strategic centres owning core enterprise service delivery, ISO 20000-1 gives them a formal, internationally recognised framework for managing incidents, changes, and service levels — valuable both for third-party managed GCCs proving governance maturity and for captive GCCs formalising their service commitments to the global parent.

Official London Cert Policy

ITIL is a best-practice guidance framework — it describes how to run good IT service management but isn't certifiable at the organisational level (only individuals can be ITIL-certified). ISO/IEC 20000-1 is the certifiable requirements standard — an organisation can be independently audited and certified against it. Many organisations implement ITIL practices and then certify their resulting system to ISO 20000-1.

Official London Cert Policy

With London Cert's streamlined process, most IT service organisations complete ISO 20000-1 certification in 3–4 weeks, depending on the number of services and teams in scope.

Official London Cert Policy

Cost depends on organisation size, number of services in scope, and existing process maturity. London Cert offers fixed-price, all-inclusive packages with no hidden fees. Contact us for a personalised quote within 24 hours.

Official London Cert Policy

Yes. Both standards share the same Harmonized Structure, so London Cert can certify them in a single integrated audit — particularly relevant for GCCs and IT service providers where information security and service management overlap significantly.
