ISO 14001 is the world's most widely adopted Environmental Management System (EMS) standard. ISO published the revised ISO 14001:2026 edition in April 2026, replacing ISO 14001:2015. It provides a systematic framework for organisations to identify, manage, control, and continuously improve their environmental performance — covering waste reduction, energy efficiency, emissions, legal compliance, life cycle impact, and pollution prevention. London Cert Ltd conducts the audit directly, and your certificate is issued with genuine IAF accreditation through our accredited certification partner.
ISO 14001:2015 does not set specific environmental performance targets — it does not tell you exactly how much CO₂ to reduce or how much waste to eliminate. Instead, it requires your organisation to build a structured system for continuously identifying your environmental impacts, setting your own improvement objectives, implementing controls, and measuring results.
The standard uses the same Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle that underpins ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 45001 (health & safety). This means that if you are already certified to ISO 9001, integrating ISO 14001 is significantly easier — the documentation structures, audit methods, and management review processes are directly compatible.
Key areas the standard addresses include:
Environmental Aspects & Impacts: Identifying what activities, products, or services interact with the environment — and what the resulting environmental impacts are.
Legal & Compliance Obligations: Tracking all applicable environmental laws, regulations, permits, and consent conditions relevant to your operations.
Objectives & Targets: Setting measurable environmental goals — e.g. reduce water consumption by 15% by December, achieve zero landfill waste by Q3.
Operational Controls: Documented procedures controlling activities that could cause significant environmental harm — chemical handling, waste disposal, effluent management, energy use.
Emergency Preparedness: Procedures for responding to environmental incidents — chemical spills, fire, flood — to minimise environmental damage.
Internal Audit & Management Review: Regular self-assessment and top management review of EMS performance and environmental objectives.
On 15 April 2026, ISO officially published ISO 14001:2026, replacing ISO 14001:2015 after a decade. This isn't a distant draft anymore — it's the current, in-force edition, and organisations certifying today are certified directly to it. The revision is an evolution, not a rewrite: the core 10-clause structure stays the same, and no existing 2015 requirement has been removed. What changed:
Climate change fully integrated: The climate change amendment added to ISO 14001:2015 back in 2024 is now built directly into Clauses 4.1 and 4.2 — climate risk must be considered as part of your organisational context from day one, not bolted on as an afterthought.
Stronger life cycle perspective: The requirement to consider environmental aspects across the product/service life cycle — from raw material sourcing to end-of-life disposal — has been strengthened and clarified, closing gaps that auditors previously interpreted inconsistently.
Structured change management: New explicit requirements for planning and managing changes to your EMS, operations, or facilities — so environmental risk is assessed before a change happens, not discovered after.
Broader operational control scope: Control requirements extend from "outsourced processes" to the wider category of "externally provided processes, products and services" — relevant if you rely on contractors, suppliers, or outsourced facilities management.
Harmonized Structure alignment: The standard is now aligned with ISO's current Harmonized Structure, making integration with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 smoother than before.
💡 Transition timeline: If you're already certified to ISO 14001:2015, your certificate remains valid — but only for 3 years from publication. Certificates to the 2015 edition must transition to ISO 14001:2026 before April 2029, after which 2015 certificates will no longer be valid. Given gap analysis, documentation updates, and at least one internal audit cycle before a transition audit, organisations that start now avoid a scramble in 2028. New applicants certify directly to ISO 14001:2026 — there's no reason to wait or to certify to the outgoing 2015 edition.
Critical: Only certificates issued by IAF-accredited bodies are genuinely valid for GeM, CPPP, and international procurement. India has thousands of fraudulent ISO bodies selling unaccredited certificates that are regularly rejected by compliance teams. London Cert is IAF-accredited — every ISO 14001:2026 certificate we issue is verifiable at verify.londoncert.co.uk.
Only a certificate carrying genuine IAF (International Accreditation Forum) accreditation is internationally valid. In India, you may see many companies offering "ISO certification" cheaply — but if the certificate doesn't carry genuine IAF accreditation, it is not internationally recognised and will be rejected by government tender portals, corporate procurement, and international buyers.
London Cert Ltd is a UK-registered certification specialist. Our own team conducts your full EMS audit directly — we are not a paperwork-only reseller. Once you pass, your certificate is issued with genuine IAF accreditation through our accredited certification partner. Every London Cert ISO 14001 certificate is verifiable at verify.londoncert.co.uk.
⚠️ Critical Warning: A significant portion of ISO certificates issued in India come from non-accredited bodies — these are not internationally valid and will fail GeM portal checks, corporate vendor audits, and tender pre-qualification. Always verify accreditation before paying for certification.
ISO 14001 is specified as a mandatory criterion in a growing number of Indian government tenders — particularly in sectors with direct environmental impact:
Infrastructure & construction projects (NHAI, PWD, Smart Cities)
Mining and extractive operations
Chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing
Defence and PSU supply chains (HAL, BHEL, ONGC, GAIL)
Export-oriented units subject to environmental compliance requirements
When specified in a tender, only a genuinely IAF-accredited ISO 14001 certificate is accepted. London Cert's certificates pass all Indian government portal compliance checks.

Why we don't publish exact prices: ISO 14001:2026 Certification certification cost depends on your specific company size, number of locations, number of employees, industry, and documentation complexity. A fixed published price would either overcharge small businesses or undercharge complex ones. Contact us for a personalised, binding quote within 24 hours — specific to your business.
More employees = more audit time. Audit duration is directly tied to your employee count and the scope of operations being certified.
Each additional location may require separate or extended audit time. Multi-site certifications are priced accordingly — contact us to discuss.
Simple service businesses have fewer process documents than complex manufacturing operations. Documentation scope directly affects cost.
If you already have some quality management processes documented, less preparation work is needed — which can reduce the overall cost.
Remote audits are available for all businesses and are typically more cost-effective. On-site audits are available for clients who need or prefer physical presence.
Most certification companies require you to hire a separate consultant to prepare documentation — and then pay the certification company for the audit on top. London Cert does both. This integrated approach saves time and significantly reduces total cost.
